Brief Information

The Himachal Pradesh Home Guards, Civil Defence, Fire and SDRF Department is the key authority responsible for maintaining internal security, assisting the police during emergencies, and managing disaster relief operations across the state. The department functions under the state government's home ministry and plays a vital role in community policing and public safety. For 2026, the department has announced a major recruitment drive to enroll 700 Home Guard Volunteers to strengthen its various battalions across Himachal Pradesh. The job profile of a Home Guard Volunteer is diverse, ranging from General Duty (GD) and Bandmen to specialized technical roles like Electricians and Plumbers. Volunteers are responsible for maintaining law and order, controlling crowds during festivals or elections, and assisting in rescue operations during natural calamities like landslides or floods. The selection process is comprehensive, involving a Physical Standard Test (PST), a Physical Efficiency Test (PET), and a Written Examination focused on general knowledge and basic academics. This recruitment is highly significant in India, especially in the Himalayan region, as it provides a platform for local youth to serve their community while receiving daily honorariums. It is a preferred entry point for those seeking careers in defense and police services, as experience in the Home Guards often provides horizontal reservation in other Himachal Pradesh government recruitments.
