Guru Jambheshwar University of Science & Technology, Hisar (formerly Guru Jambheshwar University) is a State University established on October 20, 1995, by an Act of the Legislature of the State of Haryana. It was created to facilitate and promote studies and research in emerging areas of higher education, with a focus on new frontiers of technology, pharmacy, environmental studies, non-conventional energy sources, and management studies, and to achieve excellence in these and related fields. The University was formally inaugurated on November 1, 1995. It is named after Guru Jambheshwar Ji Maharaj, a 15th-century saint and environmentalist.

The University is located in Hisar, a rapidly growing city situated 167 km from Delhi on the Delhi–Rohtak–Hisar–Sirsa–Fazilka National Highway (NH-9), and 231 km from Chandigarh on NH-152. The University campus spans approximately 372 acres, featuring a picturesque landscape, architecturally diverse buildings, and a well-developed road network, creating a harmonious blend of architecture and natural beauty. More than 275 acres have been developed, equipped with essential infrastructure such as water supply, street lighting, electricity, parks, and lawns.

The campus includes two cafeterias with large dining halls, kitchens, and storage facilities. Additionally, there is a Shopping Centre offering various amenities including a saloon, laundry services, post office, bookshop, bank with ATM, grocery store, sweets shop, milk parlour, souvenir shop, and facilities for computers and photocopying.

The University was recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under Section 2(f) for degree recognition on January 11, 1996, and under Section 12(B) of the UGC Act for central assistance eligibility on February 7, 1997.

Guru Jambheshwar University of Science & Technology is an A+ Grade accredited university by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) for the period from October 18, 2022, to October 17, 2027, with a CGPA of 3.38 in the fourth cycle of assessment and accreditation. Previously, the University was accredited three times with 'A' Grade in the years 2002, 2009, and 2014, each time with an improved score.

Currently, the University offers more than 100 undergraduate, postgraduate, and Ph.D. programmes through on-campus, distance education, and open and distance learning (ODL) modes. Many programmes have been initiated or restructured under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The University comprises 27 teaching departments.
